Empowering more North Carolinians with the opportunity to earn a college degree has always been the heart of NC State’s mission to solve problems and fuel prosperity.

And we can’t let financial barriers stand in the way of success.

NC State students qualify for need-based aid based on federal guidelines.

Currently, more than two-thirds of our students raise their hands and ask for help by applying for need-based aid, and roughly half of them qualify. Each year, we meet about 78% of that need through loans, scholarships and grants, leaving a gap that can derail students’ plans for higher education — and their dreams.

Through the Extraordinary Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (EOSI), we can close that gap and open doors. When we make room in our Pack for all, the results will be extraordinary.

About EOSI

NC State launched EOSI in February 2020. The scholarship started making a life-changing difference for our students with 31 inaugural awards in the spring of 2021.

  • EOSI is a need-based scholarship benefiting students from low- to middle-income families, first-generation students and those who are typically underrepresented in higher education.
  • EOSI recipients come from every college at NC State.
  • The average annual cost of attendance at NC State is $24,500. Although we are recognized for our affordability, a student cannot hope to cover this cost through summer jobs or by working during the school year.
  • In the 2019-20 academic year, the total unmet need for North Carolina residents at NC State was $32 million.
  • We lose promising scholars every year because we currently cannot meet 100% of demonstrated need.
  • With a combination of endowed and current-use gifts, EOSI is closing the gap in real time — and ensuring we can continue to provide for our students for years to come.
